Hiking and Walking
Trails located throughout the Queen Charlotte Islands
Archipelago range from easy to difficult, short to long and dry
to wet. The changing island seasons, your hiking experience, fitness
level and wilderness survival savvy play a big part in the Haida
Gwaii hiking experience and your choice of trail.
Both Graham and Moresby Island have many quality walks and hikes
available. A good variety of island trails include trekking through
mud, side-steeping over roots, navigating around deadfall, walking
along raised boardwalk, crossing over wooden bridges, looking
down from rocky cliffs, encountering wildlife and following sandy
beaches for miles.
Shorter walks range from 15 minutes to 7 hours. Some like Misty
Meadows and Tow
Hill Trail are short and easy grade walking trails which offer
beautiful coastline scenery. Some like, North
Beach and Agate
Beach are short beach walks but are also
enjoyed during the storm season so to capture the monster waves
crashing the shores and the high winds throwing logs in the air.
Most of the Queen Charlotte Islands longer hikes
involve wilderness camping and take 2 - 6 days to complete. The
longer hikes require planning and a good knowledge of tides and
weather patterns. Equipment should be prime and navigation abilities
sharp. Longer hikes like the East
Beach Trail follow private massive sandy beaches or, take
the Cape Fife
Trail which leads to rocky cliff viewpoints and more sandy
beaches. Year round, anything goes - short and long hikes both
rock. |
