| Anvil Trail:
An opportunity to explore and enjoy a short hiking trail (approx.
2 km return) near the region of Tlell on Graham Island of the
Queen Charlottes. The Anvil Trail explores the
forests while trekking along a dirt path (can get muddy) stepping
over some deadfall, stumps and roots exploring alongside the Tlell
River to a log jam.
The 1 1/2 hour return hike starts opposite the
Anvil Trail - Mariners Point Parking Lot found on Hwy
16 south of the Naikoon Park Headquarters. The Anvil Trail
parking lot is a treat as it is right on the ocean providing fantastic
views of Mariners Point! There is even an area set up with sitting
benches and a fire pit. A great spot for admiring sandy beaches,
marine seabirds and peaceful quiet.
The Anvil Trailhead is marked
by a small sign posted on a tree across the hwy and opposite the
parking lot. A few metres into the trail is another sign, but
this one is a carved wooden map and some text describing the adventure
ahead. There is an inscription paying thanks to Teddy Squires
and the Tlell Watershed Society.
The trail is mainly single-line hiking as it is
not a very wide path. But it is a well marked route. The route
is marked by tag colors posted on trees and easy to follow. It
is always best to have good footwear, some water, rain gear and
plan for plenty of daylight as the trail can get dark.
