| Cape Fife
Hiking Trail, Naikoon Provincial Park:
A hikers hike, a fun, dirty hike, complete with bridges, stumps,
fallen logs, thick forests, sandy beaches and forested view points.
It is not an easy grade hike, nor short or dry. It will involve
sweat and effort as you climb hills and wade through forests following
a muddy path leading to a camping shelter.
All walkers, hikers and backpackers should be prepared
for moist conditions and fast changing weather. Proper equipment,
attitude and planning are recommended. Cape Fife Hiking
Trail day trippers are usually found on the path exploring
parts of the trail and then turning back - not because they want
to but because the trail is too long to be a safe day trip.
Many backpackers use the Cape Fife Trail
as a starting point to the 89 km East Beach Trail. Backpackers
complete the entire one-way 10 km Cape Fife Trail
in about 4-6 hours. Many backpackers take even a longer time completing
the trail so to enjoy the Argonaut Plain and the many unique west
coast bog environments along the way leading to the East Beach
shelter at the end of the trail.
Then there are others, who extend the trail adventure
into a 2-3 day backpack experience exploring the coastal forest,
bogs and sandy beaches up to Rose Spit. Hikers start with the
Cape Fife Trail to the East Beach shelter - then
continue to Rose Spit. Then hike along North Beach back to Tow
Hill day use parking area. It is a 35 km return trip.
